There are things you can do that help you to lessen your risks of dealing with plumbing issues, which can help make your home owning experience much more pleasant and rewarding. Learn about common questions regarding residential plumbing here, as well as their answers:

Why is your water heater making a growling sound?

If you hear a growling sound coming from your water heater, then you may be wondering what this could be. When your water heater starts to make this noise it can mean that there is sediment in the bottom of the heater that should be drained. When you have this sediment collecting in the heater, some water can become trapped under it and boil, which causes this sound to be made. It's best to have someone drain the water heater as soon as you can get them to come out.

Why do your faucets and taps have white stuff built up around them?

When you see white build-up around the faucets and taps of your sinks, showers and tubs, it means you have a buildup of minerals, such as calcium. If you don't remove this buildup as soon as you start to notice it, then it will continue to collect and can become quite thick. Removing it is easy, you want to use a plastic bag with vinegar in it and place it over the faucets overnight. They should be clean in the morning when you remove the bags. You can also use vinegar on a nylon brush to scrub the buildup on the taps.

How do you rid yourself of foul smells coming from the garbage disposal?

You use the disposal to chop up small bits of food and this can lead to odors. If you smell them coming up from your disposal, you can get rid of them by chopping up ice cubes and lemon or orange peels with the disposal. The ice helps scrub off food particles while the peels help put a pleasant scent in the disposal that gets rid of the bad odor. You can also run peels through the disposal regularly to help keep the kitchen having a better smell to it. It's also a good idea to make sure you don't put any amount of meat down the disposal, as it can get a very bad odor to it quickly that will chase you out of the kitchen.
